Associate & Data Protection Officer
Nguveren Monica Dzuamo is an Associate in the Firm's Data Protection, Regulatory Compliance, and General Legal Practice team. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Benue State University and a Barrister-at-Law (B.L) from the Nigerian Law School, and is licensed to practice in Nigeria. She is a Certified Data Protection Officer with the Institute of Information Management. Prior to her current role, she gained experience as an NYSC Associate with Marcel Oru SAN & Co, alongside completing key legal externships in both magistrate court and corporate environments.
Her practice focuses on the intersection of law and technology engaging particularly in privacy compliance, data governance, information security management, and AI Governance where she provides strategic counsel on navigating complex regulatory frameworks. She has deep expertise in designing and executing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), drafting privacy risk assessments, managing data subject rights, and setting up records of processing activities (ROPA). Monica plays a pivotal role across the compliance lifecycle, translating strict regulatory obligations into practical organizational policies and controls to minimize legal, operational, and financial risks for clients.
A Selection of Relevant Experience
- Advising the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), conducting high-level Data Protection Audits and Impact Assessments at their Headquarters, and serving as the Lead Auditor for NIMC Front End Partners (FEPs) across multiple regions in Nigeria.
- Serving as the Technical Person for the International Institute for African Defense, Security and Governance (IIADSGOV), coordinating the drafting and implementing a specialized Data Protection and Privacy Framework for the Defence, Security, and Intelligence Sector in collaboration with the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
- Providing strategic advisory and audit implementation support for the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to ensure alignment with national data standards.
- Advising and facilitating key training on data protection and privacy for the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
